Unfortunately not. The wiring in the communicators consists of ridiculous materials that one couldn't even fathom as actual components.

But that said, it's even less likely that Prefect would be involved in a "bed thing" than it is for a communications system to operate on marbles. There are only to certain lengths my suspension of disbelief will extend.
