I don't think that's a decision that should be made for him, by you or by anyone else, and it was made for him, before he was old enough to even think about it. Now that he is old enough to think about it, I just want to give him the faculties for him to understand what the alternatives would mean for him.

As if. This is called brainwashing. You think that he's not good enough as he is, so you want to make him into something else.
