[Barron: hit by the honesty bomb. He's sitting on his bed, writing in his diary journal.]

So, guys. I basically disappeared off the barge. [He pauses to scribble something out in the journal.] Which isn't that abnormal, but it was weird. I spent a while at home not remembering being here at all. My brother turned out to be a total asshole who was willing to turn us over to the Feds, so he got taken out by my other brother. Who then got all into my business and made the hot high school girl I was really into break up with me.

[Barron sighs, making a face.] It's not like I'm that much older than her, but whatever. It's a little ridiculous. I mean, even my Mom is getting together with a guy. Who's totally the head of a mob family, but what are you gonna do? [Barron shrugs.] It's not like the connections would do us any harm.

[He stops scribbling in his journal.] Then I was back here, remembering being here from before and the new stuff that I'd done at home. I guess I asked the Admiral if I could go home the right amount of times or something. [A pause.] It was better than being here, even with all the drama going down.

Come on. She's really mature for her age and is graduating really soon. I'm only three years older than her.

No Comrade, it's weird. You're a grown man, and a worker, and you shouldn't be getting her involved in that. Anyway, she's back home, and you're here now, so you just forget all about her, and we should go get a drink together.

Whoa, no way. When I say I was into her, I'm not kidding. We're basically meant for each other.

Comrade, do you have any idea how many people I've thought were perfect for me? But she clearly doesn't feel the same way, or nothing Cassel could have done would have broken the two of you up.

[Barron wakes up with an aching head, but in his own bed. He stares at the wall, trying to remember what happened the night before. After a moment he rolls over, only to come into contact with another person. Prefect. In his bed. Wearing Barron's own gloves?]

[Barron chokes, which in turn sends him into a fit of coughing. This is not turning out to be one of his better mornings.]

[Prefect is nestled comfortably against some soft mass of matter. He's warm. He's comfortable. He's happy.

He may still be a little drunk from last night.

There's a sound, and the warm shape he's leaning on starts coughing, which is downright uncomfortable. He cracks open his bloodshot eyes, and squints, bemusedly, at...

...really?]

Barron? Comrade? What are you doing in--

[In his bed. Wait, is this his bed?]

[Barron continues coughing, until he finally manages to clear his throat. He looks at Prefect again, will this to be a terrible dream. Then at his own, very gloveless hands. Barron quickly slides his hands under the blanket, out of sight.]

I think there was a flood. [Barron said, looking from Prefect to the bottles of alcohol on the floor.] There was almost certainly a flood.

[Barron pauses for a second, before continuing. The embarrassment is not letting up.] Yes. A flood.

[Oh god, no, It's all coming back! The pool, the shots, the pestering Barron to make out with him!]

Oh-- Oh my goodness, Comrade. I think-- I feel as though I took advantage of you last night...

[It was a flood, it was definitely a flood, and now... Prefect is pressing his hands over his face, because this may actually be the worst thing he's ever done.]

Prefect, calm down. [Barron said, as much he his benefit as for Prefect's.] Because of the flood, I was pretty on board for that.

[He pauses. This doesn't make the current situation any less embarrassing or awkward. Barron glances around the room, counting bottles.] I think we drunk a bit. And by a bit I mean a lot.

[He sighs.] Can I have my gloves back, please?

[Breakfast was looking pretty good today! There were sausages and bacon and eggs, and best of all? Pancakes. Prefect had gone for the pancakes with maple syroup, because today seemed like a bad day for greasy food to him, and settled down opposite Barron with two cups of coffee and a little plate of toast.]

So, you were going to tell me what you'd want things to be like at home, if you could have it any way you wanted?

[Barron pauses in between bites of his very manly bacon and sausage sandwich.]

Oh, yeah. Right. [He shrugs, before deciding to go for a half assed answer.] There wouldn't be all that worker discrimination, for one thing.

[Prefect swoops some delicious, moist pancake onto his fork. It is not a very manly breakfast.]

That's a good start. What would your family be like? Would you want them to be criminals, if they could be absolutely anything in the world?

[Barron thinks about it, but not that hard.]

Well, ideally we'd all get some really big score and then have a lot of cash.

Comrade, what I'm asking you to think about, is a different kind of success. I know because of what your family does, the perfect ending for them would be a big score and lots of cash, but imagine if they could do something else? With a different perfect ending? Like, what if you could be a lawyer who makes hundreds of dollars an hour and is admired by his community? Or what if... what if Phillip had made some different choices?
